Privacy Policy
Last updated June 2026
Keepsake holds some of your most personal notes: the people you love and the little things about them. We treat that with care. This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
The short version
- Your people, clues, moments, and gift ideas are yours. We use them to make the app work for you, not to build a profile of you.
- Voice notes are transcribed on your phone. The audio never leaves your device.
- We never sell your information and we never show you ads.
- Analytics are off until you say yes, and you can turn them off again at any time.
- You can export or delete everything, including your whole account, whenever you like.
Who we are
Keepsake is made by The Byte Stack. When this policy says “we” or “us,” that is who we mean. For anything about your privacy, write to privacy@thebytestack.com.
What we collect, and why
Your account
You sign in with Google or Apple through our authentication provider, Clerk. We receive your name, email address, and a sign-in identifier so we can keep your data tied to you and to no one else. We never see your Google or Apple password.
The things you put in Keepsake
The heart of the app: the people you add, the clues and notes you keep about them, the moments and dates you track, your gift ideas, plans, and budgets, and any photos you choose to attach. You create this, and you can change or remove it at any time.
Diagnostics
To find and fix crashes, we collect technical error reports through Sentry (for example, what went wrong and on what kind of device). These reports are about the app’s health, not about you.
Analytics, only with your consent
Usage analytics through PostHog are off by default. We ask first. If you opt in, we record basic, privacy-respecting events about how the app is used so we can improve it. You can withdraw consent in the app at any time, and we stop.
Voice notes
When you speak a clue, a moment, or a gift idea, Keepsake transcribes your speech into text on your device. The audio recording itself is never uploaded and never leaves your phone.
The resulting textis then sent to our server and on to our AI provider (currently Google’s Gemini models, routed through Vercel’s AI Gateway) for one purpose: to understand the note and sort it into the right place, like a clue or a moment. The transcript is used to give you that result and is not used to advertise to you.
Permissions we ask for
Keepsake only uses a device permission after you grant it, and only for what you pick:
- Contacts so you can quickly add the people you care about. Only the names and photos you choose are imported, never your whole address book.
- Calendar to read upcoming birthdays and events so we can remind you in time.
- Photos so you can attach an image to a clue. Only the photos you pick are used.
- Microphone so you can speak a note, which is then transcribed on your device as described above.
You can change or revoke any of these at any time in your phone’s settings.
Who helps us run Keepsake
We use a small set of trusted service providers to operate the app. They process data only on our instructions and only to provide their service:
- Clerk for sign-in and account security.
- Neon to store your account data and the things you keep in the app.
- Cloudflare R2 to hold the photos you choose to attach, kept private to you.
- Vercel to host our service and route requests, including to our AI provider.
- Google (Gemini) to understand the text of your voice notes.
- Sentry for crash and error diagnostics.
- PostHog for analytics, only if you have opted in.
- Expo to deliver the reminder notifications you ask for.
What we never do
- We never sell or rent your information.
- We never show you advertising.
- We never upload your voice recordings.
- We never turn on analytics without your explicit consent.
Your choices and your data
You stay in control. From within the app you can edit or delete any person, clue, moment, or idea. You can request an export of your data, and you can delete your entire account, which removes your content from our systems. To make a request you cannot complete in the app, email privacy@thebytestack.com.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal data, such as the right to access, correct, or delete it. We honor those rights. Just reach out.
Keeping it secure
Your data is encrypted in transit. Photos are kept in private storage and served only to you through short-lived, signed links. We limit who and what can reach your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you trust us with.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete something, or your whole account, we remove it from our live systems. Limited backups may persist for a short period before they age out.
Children
Keepsake is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and the date above. Significant changes will be made clear in the app.
